The 1984 to 1986 Ford Mustang SVO was a variant of the 1979-1986 Third Generation Mustang and featured unique styling, performance, and collectibility. Ford's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division lent its racing technology to the street version of the Mustang. The Mustang SVO's original MSRP was just over $15,000, and approximately 10k were produced. Exterior features included a functional hood scoop, a unique grill, and a biplane spoiler. The interior was only available in charcoal grey leather or cloth upholstery on sport seats with various power amenities. An optional Competition package saw these amenities removed, likely for weight benefits. Horsepower ranged from 175 to 205 horsepower depending on year via a 2.4L turbocharged inline four cylinder with up to 248 lb-ft of torque when new. The front suspension geometry was improved from the standard Mustang and additionally featured KONI adjustable struts and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. A five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential sent power to the rear wheels. The Mustang SVT Cobra eventually succeeded the Mustang SVO in 1993.
